Type collections of Nepenthaceae at the Herbarium Bogoriense (BO), Indonesia

Latest version published by Herbarium Bogoriense, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) on Jul 4, 2022 Herbarium Bogoriense, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)

The type collections of Nepenthaceae deposited at the Herbarium Bogoriense (BO) are provided for the scientific community, policymakers, and the public. This access to the type collections will be valuable for research to improve the understanding on the diversity and taxonomy of the taxa. Eighty-four type specimens of Nepenthaceae are now available online.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 87 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Downloads

Download the latest version of this resource data as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A) or the resource metadata as EML or RTF:

Geographic Coverage

The type specimens of Nepenthaceae were mostly collected from Indonesia, i.e. from Borneo, Moluccas, Papua, Sulawesi, and Sumatra. Other specimens are from Peninsular Malaysia and the Philippines. Type specimens of more than forty species of Nepenthes were collected from the year 1856 up to 2007. A large number of species were collected from Sumatra, i.e., by Teijsmann in 1856, Bunnemeijer and Lorzing in early 1900. Collections from Borneo were collected as early as 1894 by Hallier, with the latest collection in 1981 by Turnbull & Middleton.

Project Data

Herbarium Bogoriense (BO) houses nearly 1 million botanical specimens, which consist of dry and spirit collections, particularly collected from the islands of Indonesia. As the biggest herbarium in South East Asia, BO is one of the most visited herbaria in the region. To improve its roles, BO would like to start providing online access to its specimen data in order to make the data more broadly available to the scientific community, policy makers and the public.

Title Data Mobilization of Botanical Collections at Herbarium Bogoriense (BO), Indonesia
Identifier BIFA6_014
Funding Biodiversity Fund for Asia (BIFA)-GBIF
Study Area Description Datasets of selected families of type and general collections that are kept at the Herbarium Bogoriense (BO), Indonesia is the targeted project.
Design Description The mobilization program conducts 4 main activities: validating taxonomic identification, databasing, imaging, and georeferencing data. Cleaning data and publishing data are two other important activities. The project is supported by Curators, IT specialists, Herbarium assistants, and Data Entry Operators (DEO). They work under the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) process that the Project Coordinator and Project Assistant have routinely conducted.

The personnel involved in the project:

Principal Investigator
Atik Retnowati

Sampling Methods

We checked the validity of the collection data extracted from the Indonesian Biodiversity Information System (IBIS). The taxonomic information of the collections, i.e. scientific name and the type status (holotype, isotype, type, etc) were validated. Re-identification is taken placed on several selected species. Validation of the taxonomic information was then followed by the viewing and matching of the data with collection labels.

Study Extent Curatorial works on the collections of Nepenthaceae at the Herbarium Bogoriense (BO) were carried out for this project.
Quality Control Curatorial works are controlled by the Project Coordinator and Project Coordinator Assistant.

Method step description:

  1. The program conducts 4 main activities: validating taxonomic identification and information, databasing, imaging, and georeferencing data. Cleaning data were done before publishing the data.
